Affiliation(s): Department of Population Health, NYU Grossman School of Medicine
Degree(s): PhD
Research Interests: Medicaid; substance use disorder; pregnant and parenting people; mixed-methods research
Sugy’s research experiences include evaluating state-level policies and health services outcomes and studying socioeconomic determinants across multiple health care settings at domestic and international levels. By examining the impact of policy/program interventions and addressing health disparities, Sugy strives to contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies that can drive positive change and improve patient care. Sugy combines the use of big data such as administrative data, such as Medicaid claims, HIV/AIDS registries, national surveys, and state treatment registries, and qualitative data to examine treatment and other healthcare utilization patterns among individuals with substance use disorder (SUD), HIV/AIDS, and severe mental illnesses.
