Dr. Stefanie Russell is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU College of Dentistry. She is an epidemiologist (PhD, Yale University, 2004) and a dentist with dual specialties in Dental Public Health and Periodontology. She is particularly passionate about work that addresses risk factors for poor oral health in vulnerable populations, especially women. Her current major project is an NIH-funded R01 which is underway at Bellevue Hospital in New York City (Pathways to Oral Health Among Low-Income Pregnant Urban Women), a prospective observational study designed to identify sociobehavioral and psychosocial predictors of prenatal dental care underutilization among vulnerable women at an urban hospital prenatal clinic. She is also the Founder and current Director of the Bellevue Hospital/ New York University Prenatal Oral Health Program, which uses strategies from national guidelines addressed to increase dental care utilization and improve perinatal oral health among low-income pregnant persons.
