Dr. Kiara Moore is an Assistant Professor at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. Her research examines strategies to enhance mental health services for youth during their transition to adulthood. Focused on young people from under-resourced backgrounds, who are from minoritized racial, ethnic, sexual, or gender identity groups, she studies how young adults’ development and social positions intersect to shape their participation in mental health care. She is working on identifying novel targets and designing interventions that employ cultural and structural competency to reduce major barriers to treatment. Dr. Moore was recently awarded an NIMH K23 Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award to use MOST to adapt and test an arts-based program for young adults in community mental health care in New York City. Dr. Moore brings over a decade of experience as a clinician to her research and consultancies. She earned her PhD from Columbia University and her MSW from the University of Southern California.
